One of our fellow coaches can always be counted on to bring us up short when we are frustrated with a person in our lives. She will always say, “What do you appreciate about X?”
Try it. Next time you are feeling tension with a co-worker, instead of focusing on all of the person’s faults and annoying behaviors, transfer your attention to finding the positive traits that person has. Not only will your feelings change, but the person involved will feel the energy shift and you may find it much easier to talk through whatever has come up between you.
